Sunny top - winter edition

Recently Veronica from SewVery released her first pattern - the Sunny Dress and Top pattern. I have been following Veronica's sewing adventures for a while, so naturally I was happy for her! Seeing testers versions of this dress and top made me realise just how much I miss summer!

But just because it is cold in my corner of the world it does not mean I cannot sew a summer pattern. Of course I can! In fact, I did.

While she was sleeping, I made a winter version of the Sunny Top for Little Monkey, and she loved it!

I used lightweight denim for this top and corduroy for the pocket and the straps. The pocket is lined with lightweight white cotton.

The pocket. It is not a secret that Little Monkey loves pockets. But this pocket, ladies and gentlemen, is a very special pocket. It was inspired by a cat named Oz that my husband's parents recently adopted. I am not a cat person, but I admit that Oz is cool. He was great with Little Monkey who continually wanted to play with him. My daughter has always liked cats, but after her encounter with Oz she really wants one. "Mummy, I want a cat in our house". This is the closest to getting a real cat she is going to get I am afraid! Well, at least for now ;)

I created a template for this pocket using a tray from a sauce jug and a cup. Of course there are plenty of pictures of cats online, but our printer is not working.

The original Sunny dress has ties at the back, but I didn't think that they would have been practical as we still wear jumpers and coats. I simply replaced ties with straps with buttons. Cute, simple, practical.

I cannot wait until it gets warmer. While I opted for heavier winter appropriate fabrics for this version of the Sunny top, I used quilting cotton with floral print that reminded me of spring for the lining.

Little Monkey styled her outfit herself. Well, I reminded her about her pink Hosh pants as I thought they would look cool with her new Sunny top, and she loved the idea. The gray top is one of her favourites because it has a picture of a rainbow on it.

This top was so much fun to make! Veronica has done a great job with the pattern. I felt a little rebellious and sewed the top only following pictures from the tutorial, and it was easy!

What do you think about this top? Would you like to try this pattern yourself? Veronica generously offers a 20% discount on the Sunny Dress and Top pattern during the blog tour (11 - 17 August) withe the code SUNNY20. You are also welcome to enter a give-away. 5. I'm so glad you showed that it can be worn in the winter, too! Ella will definitely be getting some winter versions to layer over t-shirts, and she might just have one with a cat on it as well! Thanks for being a part of the tour, Jenya!

  8. Awwww, beautiful pocket Jenya. I was not a cat person until I had a cat. Her name was Mathilda and was black.
She was great and almost didn't live with us. When Little Boy cried she touched him with her paws to calm him.
I think you live in a great weather to have an indoor/outdoor cat, they mostly live outside.

    1. OH Carolina, Mathilda sounds like a great cat! I had a cat growing up, and she was a... hm... what PG rated word can I use to describe her? She was nasty, but I adores her! When I was in Russia a few years ago I got a kitten for my mum... because she was thinking of getting a puppy haha I am sure one day LM will bring a kitten home.
